## Choose a starting point [#choose-a-starting-point]

Visit [Latest](/wallpapers?sort=latest) for recent additions or [Popular](/wallpapers?sort=popular) to explore wallpapers attracting activity in the gallery. Use a subject, color, or place in search when you have something specific in mind.

Device shortcuts help narrow the shape of the image. [Desktop](/wallpapers/devices/desktop) wallpapers use wide compositions; [phone](/wallpapers/devices/phone) wallpapers are vertical. [Ultrawide](/wallpapers/devices/ultrawide) images allow more room on either side. These are starting points: check your own screen's dimensions as well.

## Preview before downloading [#preview-before-downloading]

Open a wallpaper to see its larger preview, dimensions, and creator. Compare the device frames and check where the subject will sit around icons, widgets, and the clock. The gallery thumbnail and your final screen crop can look different.

The device frames demonstrate composition. They do not mean that every artwork offers every download format. For more help, read [choosing a wallpaper for your screen](/docs/wallpaper-guide).

## Select a file and review the cost [#select-a-file-and-review-the-cost]

Choose from the download options listed for that artwork. Check the dimensions and format of the option you select. Available sizes vary by wallpaper, and pixel dimensions alone do not describe how much fine detail an image contains.

Some downloads use credits. Review the displayed cost before confirming; your [credit history](/settings/credits) records credit activity. Check the artwork's license too: a paid download does not automatically include commercial use. See [wallpaper usage](/docs/wallpaper-usage).

## Set it on your device [#set-it-on-your-device]

Use your device's wallpaper settings to select the downloaded file. A **fill** setting may crop the edges, while **fit** may leave borders. Reposition the image if your device allows it, and check the result with your usual icons and widgets visible.

## Live wallpapers [#live-wallpapers]

[Live wallpapers](/live-wallpapers) include motion. Open one to preview it and check its available files and installation instructions. Playback depends on the file format, your device, and any companion software required.
